When is the first scan performed in pregnancy and why is it done?
A
11-13 weeks. (12 week scan)
It usualyl combines the nuchal translucency (Down’s screen) & dating scan.
It can also show how many fetuses there are.

A
At 18-21 weeks (20 week scan)

A
- Down’s syndrome
- Congenital heart defects

- Cystic fibrosis
