A
Hb <110g/l in first trimester
<105g/l in second and third trimesters
<100g/l in postpartum period

When should FBC be assessed?
A
- At booking
- At 28 weeks.

What is the first line diagnostic test if the pregnant lady is found to be anaemic?
A
Oral iron supplementation trial
An increase in Hb must be demonstrated at 2 weeks.

How long should iron supplementation be continued?
A
Once Hb is in the normal range supplementation should continue for three months and at least until 6 weeks postpartum to replenish iron stores
