What are the risk factors for endomentrial cancer?
- Unopposed oestrogen. The addition of a progestogen to oestrogen reduces this risk (e.g. In HRT). The BNF states that the additional risk is eliminated if a progestogen is given continuously
- Obesity
- Nulliparity
- Early menarche
- Late menopause
- Diabetes mellitus
- Tamoxifen
- Polycystic ovarian syndrome

What is the classic post menopausal symptoms for endometrial cancer?
Post menopausal bleeding
In pre-menopausal women, whatpresentation might they have?

Will women with endometrial cancer also present with pain and discharge?
No, they are unusual features
What investigations should be done for endometrial cancer?
- First line - TVUS
- Hysteroscopy with endometrial biopsy
What is the normal endometrial thickness? (important for understanding USS reports)
< 4 mm
How is endometrial cancer managed?
- Localised disease - total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophrectomies. +/- radiotherapy if high-risk disease.
- Progestogen therapy can be used in frail elderly women if not suitable for surgery.
What is the prognosis for endometrial cancer?
(good or bad)
Good.
It is usually picked up early due to the presentation.
