Define ‘induction’
Induction is the process ofinducting (introducing)a new employee to an organization.
What sort of things can an induction process involve?
Taking new employees on a tour of the workplace, familiarizing them with business policies and procedures, and introducing them to other staff members.
What is the purpose of inductions?
To support new employees and provide essential business information relevant to their role.
What are the 5 induction methods?
- E-Learning
- On the job training
- Mentoring
- Induction pack
- Organising meetings with key staff members
What does E-Learning involve?
Delivering information to the new employee electronically via a computer or other digital device. eg. watch videos and complete modules on Workplace Health and Safety.
What does ‘on the job training’ involve?
A hands-on method where employees develop their knowledge and skills within the workplace. eg. shadowing an experienced employee in the same position.
What does ‘mentoring’ involve?
A senior employee assisting a new employee in developing the knowledge and skills needed for their role. eg. a more senior employee supports new employees and provides guidance and advice.
What is an ‘induction pack’?
A physical or electronic folder containing information for new employees. Eg. Policies and procedures, employer expectations and other necessary paperwork like bank details form and superannuation fund form.
What does ‘organising meetings with key staff members’ involve?
The new employee and other key staff members in the business come together during the induction to introduce themselves and address any questions or concerns.
