- Determine who needs information (staff, customers, regulatory bodies, news outlets)
- Determine what necessary information should be divulged
- Ensure the facts are correct – verify before releasing info
- Get the information out quickly – slow response looks bad
- Be prepared to answer questions from the press. Pre-empt questions. Have a plan and stick to it.
