Define recruitment
Recruitment refers to the process of identifying, attracting, interviewing, selecting, hiring and onboarding employees.
What does internal recruitment involve?
Businesses filling vacant positions with someone already employed within the business.
Usually involves an opportunity for a person to take on different duties and can mean a promotion to take on greater responsibilities within the business.
Identify 3 methods of internal recruitment
- Word of mouth
- Posted on intranet (Internal computer network)
- Notice posted on staff noticeboard
- Manager recommendation
- Positions vacant publicised via email to staff
Identify two advantages of internal recruitment
Employees are already known to the employer
Applicants are already familiar with the business, its culture, objectives and processes
Creates a career path within the business to reward valuable employees
Advertising costs are reduced
Identify two disadvantages of internal recruitment
No-one suitable within the business
Can lead to conflict or jealousies between employees
Applicants may be set in their ways and not open to new ideas
An external recruitment process may still be necessary to fill the position of the staff member that was promoted
