What effect has technology had on the ability of businesses to maintain their top employees?
Employees can be trained in the use of technology and obtain new skills which opens up new opportunities for them within the organisation.
Staff are able to work from home (more flexible work options) due to technology.
The use of smart devices to complete aspects of the employee’s role increases engagement and satisfaction.
The implementation of new technology can ignite the interest of longer serving employees and provide new challenges to keep them engaged and satisfied at work.

Wireless connected tablet computers and smartphones can change the nature of work meaning employees become more mobile and can carry out their tasks from almost anywhere.
Staff are more likely to use workplace computers to carry out personal business during work hours. At the same time, many will carry out work-related tasks at home during their own time.
List three positive impacts of technology on staffing.
Business may be able to reduce expenditure due to increased efficiency of processes.
Business may be able to reduce staffing levels (due to replacement of human labour/process with technology) and therefore reduce wage/salary expenditure.
Business may be able to capitalize on opportunities to improve in areas that were previously not viable.
