Types of lymphocytes Flashcards
what are T helper cells?
they bind to the antigens on APCs and produce interleukins to activate B cells
what are T killer cells?
they destroy pathogens by producing perforin which makes holes in the cell membrane of the pathogen
what are T memory cells?
they are part of immunological memory
if they recognise the same antigen they divide rapidly to form clones of T killer cells to destroy the pathogen
what are T regulator cells?
they stop an immune response once the pathogen is destroyed
they ensure self cells are not destroyed by the immune response
what are B plasma cells?
they produce antibodies to a specific antigen
what are B effector cells?
they divide to form plasma cell clones
what are B memory cells?
they are part of the immunological memory
they remember a specific antigen and ensures a rapid immune response if the antigen is encountered again
