The repeated use of negative language emphasises his enraged hatred towards the Montague family. This indicates his loyalty towards his family and shows that he would do anything to keep them safe. Manly

The use of ‘boy’ in this sense suggests that Tybalt us mocking Romeo. He knows he isn’t a boy but uses it to put Romeo down to solidify his higher level in the social hierarchy

Emphasises his chaotic personality. He is in awe of danger and loves to cause harm to the enemy of his family. Again uses negative language to describe them

Aggressive behaviour, wants to cause harm to enemy. Never looks towards piece or resolution without pain, links back to his chaotic, disorderly personality

Never frightened to present his opinion on others. Suggests his manly character. Not scared of hurting others feelings to make himself feel better

This line contrast to Tybalt’s actions and language in the whole play. Shows importance towards Romeo rather than Benvolio. Doesn’t want to cause harm to anyone else but Romeo. Polite and courteous

An insult towards Tybalt. He doesn’t take this likely, doesn’t want anyone inuslting his manhood, and so begins to fight mercutio
