Tutorial 1 Flashcards
Bonds required for primary structure?
Peptide covalent bonds.
Interactions required to form secondary structures?
Hydrogen bonds from the backbone.
Bonds between R groups are important for?
Tertiary and quaternary structures.
The promotor consists of?
-35 box to the -10r box.
Where does transcription start?
In the +1 site.
Point mutation?
Change in a single base in DNA. It can be minimal or severe (change in start or stop codon)
How many replication rounds does it take for a mutation to affect both strands?
2 rounds.
Silent mutations?
Mutations that get ignored because of wobble effect since it changes the third base pair of a codon.
Missense mutations?
A point mutation that actually changes the amino acid (the mutation occurs in the first or second base pair of a codon).
Nonsense mutations?
Point mutation that creates a new stop codon.
Deletion mutation?
When a base pair gets deleted.
Frameshift mutation?
When a base pair gets deleted and the entire sequence shifts.
