TRP PL Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the pathophysiology of TRP:
A
Ingestion of metallic wire -> penetration of reticulum and causing peritonitis
2
Q
Provide 4 potential symptoms that may be seen in TRP:
A
- Decrease appetite + milk production
- Arched back
- Decreased rumen motility
- Fever
- Rectal palpation may feel normal
- Pericardium penetrated may cause abnormal heart sounds + heart failure
3
Q
What are four changes in clinical pathology that may be seen with traumatic pericarditis?
A
- Increase in plasma fibrinogen (1000 mg/dL)
- Absolute or relative neutrophilia
- Left shift in cases of severe generalised peritonitis
- Chronic – globulins increased and albumin decreased
4
Q
Name 4 syndromes that could occur as a consequence of TRP:
A
- Localised peritonitis
- Generalised peritonitis
- Pericarditis
- Vagal indigestion
- Liver abscesses
- Pleuritis and lung abscess
- Amyloidosis involving kidneys
5
Q
What are three treatment options for TRP?
A
- Ab’s + stall confinement + magnet (check if they already have a magnet by using a compass)
- If worsening do rumenotomy
- Resecting the 5th rib + pericardium can buy time in cases of pericarditis
