- High concentrate diets
- High grain intake
- Ingestion of plant thiaminases or analogues

A
- Cortical blindness - absent menace, intact palpebral and pupillary light response
- Head pressing

What is a post-mortem finding that may indicate PEM?
A
- Brain tissue fluoresces under the presence of UV light

What are the two main principles to the treatment of PEM?
A
- Treat with thiamine - IM or SC
- Early treatment is critical for the disease
