TRIPHASIC TECH SCAN Flashcards

1
Q

three phases of tri phasic scan?

A

“Window of vascular perfusion” – dynamic images - bulk of tracer is
intravascular; taken at 1 min

“Window of hyperemia” – Blood pool image - ECF content/hyperemia to
extremity; taken at 5 min

Delayed/Static stage – Taken after 4 hours

  • 24 hrs delay - uptake in lamellar bone ends at 4 hrs. Woven bone
    (abnormal) continues for 24 hrs.

Q

Why can’t bone scans be used to see if patient has post op infection?

A

Bone scans remain hot for 9-12 months post major bone trauma. (No longer a reliable
diagnostic tool)
