Translation and post-translational modification Flashcards
1
Q
Nonsense mutation
A
codon change to termination codon
2
Q
Missense mutation
A
codon change to another codon that codes for different aminoacid
3
Q
silent mutation
A
change in nucleotide sequence doesn’t change the amino acid
4
Q
Components required for translation
A
mRNA ribosomes tRNA GTP Initiation factors
5
Q
What is the wobble hypothesis
A
Traditional rules for first two bases of codon, but less stringent for the last base. This leads to the fact that less then 61 tRNAs exist since some tRNAs may read more than one codon.
6
Q
What is Inosine (I)
A
A nucleoside formed when hypoxanthine is attached to a ribose ring.
Inosine in 5’ nucleotide of anticodon can bind to U, C, and A of codon, coding for Alanine
