Translation Flashcards
Where is the mRNA transported?
attaches to ribosome
What happens after the mRNA has attached?
the mRNA attaches to the ribosome at the “start” codon (AUG)
the tRNA attaches to the ribosome and their anticodons pair up with the appropriate codons on the mRNA
What happens after the codons have matched up?
the amino acids transported by the tRNA line together and the tRNA molecules then return to the cytoplasm
What does the ribosome do in this process?
moves along the mRNA, and amino acids continue to join together until all the codons have been translated and the polypeptide is complete
brings 2 tRNA molecules at any one tyme
What happens after the tRNA has been released?
collects another amino acid
When does this process stop?
when a stop codon on the mRNA has been reached
What is polysome?
many ribosomes can travel along the mRNA at any one time
How are the amino acids joined together?
- ribozyme enzyme and atp used to join the amino acids with a peptide bond
what is the 5’ cap for
singal for the ribosome to bind to the mRNA
