Translation Flashcards
What is initiation in translation?
Initiation:
• small and large ribosomal subunits assemble along with the interior TRNA around the start code on on the mRNA strand
• this inhibitor tRNA (with methionine) sits in the peace site of the ribosome
What is elongation in translation?
Elongation: (amino site, peptide site, exit site)
• another TRA with the corresponding anticodon for the next three nucleotides in the MRA sequence moves into the amino site in the ribosome
• amino acids from the tRNA and the peptide site bonds (peptide bonds) with the incoming amino acid positioned in the A site
• the ribosome moves another three nucleotides (1 codon) along the MRA and the 5’ to 3’ direction
• TRA‘s with the ribosome shift over one position so that the A site is again open to receive another tRNA
• tRNA found in the east site will exit the ribosome
What is termination in translation?
Termination:
• stop code on signals for the separation and release of the polypeptide chain and the disassembly of the ribosome
• the polypeptide goes to fold through its secondary, tertiary and quaternary (if acceptable) structures
