training programmes Flashcards
what are reasons for training
To improve fitness
To improve health
To lose weight
To have a healthier heart
Reduce the risk of illnesses such as heart disease and obesity
what does sport stand for
S- Specificity
PO- Progressive Overload
R- Reversibility
T- Tedium
what does plateau mean
Plateau means your fitness level will stay the same
rather than increase
what does specificity mean in sport
Training needs to be specific to the athlete/
person
what does Progressive Overload mean in sport
Training must get harder otherwise your fitness
levels will plateau
what does Reversibility
systems reverse or de-adapt if training stops or is significantly reduced or injury prevents training from taking place. It is essential to avoid breaks in training and to maintain the motivation of the athlete.
what does Tedium mean
athletes need variety in their training to prevent boredom but also some types of overuse injuries such as strains or even stress fractures
what does FITT stand for
Frequency, Intensity, Time, Type
what does Frequency mean in FITT
frequency is increased by training a greater number of times each week
what does intensity mean in FITT
intensity is increased by lifting a greater resistance, such as with weight training, or by training at a higher percentage of maximum heart rate . This can be done either as continuous or interval training
what does time mean in FITT
time can be manipulated by training for longer, reducing recovery times or by completing a greater number of sets or repetitions
what does type mean on FITT
Type of training is manipulated by offering a variety of training types and experiences to the athlete by combining training methods
