Training And Impact On Cardiovasvular System Flashcards
What does Diastole mean
Term used to describe the relaxation phase of the cardiac cycle.
The heart ventricles are relaxed and fill with blood
What does systole mean
Term used to describe the contraction phase of the cardiac cycle- the ventricles contract and pump blood to arteries.
(RV to the pulmonary arteries and the lungs, LV to the aorta and the body)
What is stroke volume
The volume of blood that leaves the heart during each contraction
Health
The state of complete physical, mental, social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity/injury
Fitness
The ability to meet the demands of the environment
Physical activity
Being active and taking part in exercise
Anticipatory rise
Slight increase in your heart rate before activity starts due to expectation of exercise
Cardiac output
The amount of blood the heart pumps out. Measured in Litres per minute
How exercising improves your physical health
Decreases resting heart rate
Decreases risk of cardiac disease/ type 2 diabetes
Increases stroke volume
Increases cardiac output
Increases red blood cells
Increases life expectancy
Increases metabolic rate
