Topics 3,4,5 - Acids, Metals & Fuels: Biofuels Flashcards
1
Q
Give some advantages of replacing fossil fuels with biofuels.
A
E.g. biofuels are renewable, unlike fossil fuels. The crops used to make biofuels absorb carbon dioxide while they’re growing. This balances the carbon dioxide released when they’re burnt.
2
Q
Give an example of a biofuel and say how it is made.
A
E.g. ethanol. It’s made by fermenting sugars from crops such as sugar cane or sugar beet.
3
Q
Give a disadvantage of replacing fossil fuels with biofuels.
A
E.g. a large amount of land is needed to grow the crops used to produce the biofuels. This reduces the land available to grow crops for food.
