E.g. Limestone / chalk is a sedimentary rock. Sedimentary rocks form from layers of sediment being crushed over a very long period of time.

Give an example of a metamorphic rock, and describe how metamorphic rocks form.

E.g. marble is a metamorphic rock. Metamorphic rocks are formed by the action of heat and pressure on rocks over a long period of time.

Give an example of an igneous rock, and describe how igneous rocks form.

E.g. granite is an igneous rock. Igneous rocks form when molten magma pushes up into the crust, cools and solidifies. Crystals on different sizes form depending on the rate of cooling.

E.g. they may contain fossils, and they erode easily.
