Topic 3,4,5 - Acids, Metals & Fuels: Measuring The Energy Content Of Fuels Flashcards
Fuel A heats up some water by 15 degrees celsius. Fuel B heats up the same volume of water by 18 degrees celsius. Which fuel has the higher energy content how do you know?
Fuel B, because it heats up the same volume of water to a higher temperature.
Suggest some factors that should be kept the same when carrying out an experiment to compare the energy content of different fuels.
E.g. you should use the same apparatus. You should use the same amount of water in the calorimeter each time. The water should start and finish at the same temperature each time.
A fuel burner has a mass of 35kg. After being used to heat some water, it has a mass of 27g. What mass of fuel has been burnt?
35g - 27g = 8g
