Topic 8 -Simple organ Membranes Flashcards
Simplest organs tissue types
2 tissue types
Epithelium attached to CT with a basement membrane between them
What are the 4 simple organs: membranes
Mucous membranes
Serous membranes
Synovial membranes
Cutaneous membranes
Mucous membranes (mucosa)
Line cavities which open directly to the body exterior
Also called the mucosa of the digestive respiratory urinary and reproductive systems
What are the two layers of the mucous membranes
Epithelial layer (avascular) varies from simple squamous to pseudostratified
CT layer (loose areolar to vascular) name the lamina propria (only in mucous membranes) nourishes the epithelial cells
Serous membranes (serosa)
Lines cavities that do not open to exterior ex abdominal and chest cavities
Covers organs in these cavities
Double membranes each composed of epithelial layers often simple squamous next to serious cavity and CT’s areolar
What are the two layers of the serous membranes
Parietal layer -against cavity wall
And visceral layer -against Organ
Serous fluid between layers
How are serious membranes named
For location
Pericardium-heart
Pleura -lungs (parietal and visceral pleura)
Peritoneum -abdominal organs
Synovial membranes
In joints
Areolar CT, NO epithelium (only one tissue type!)
Cutaneous Membranes
Skin
Epithelium is stratified squamous (epidermis)
CT is areolar and dense irregular (dermis)
