Topic 8: Cell Physiology 2 - Cellular Respiration Flashcards
1
Q
How can we produce ATP using glucose? (2)
A
- glucose enters most cells by facilitated transport
- may be increased in some cells by insulin
2
Q
What is the reaction to produce ATP from glucose?
A
3
Q
After making ATP, what are the steps in cellular respiration? (4)
A
1) glycolysis (anaerobic) in cytosol
2) Enters mitochondria and becomes aerobic
3) Krebs Cycle
4) ETC
4
Q
In the body, what does glycogen turn into?
A
glycogen to glucose to ATP
5
Q
What do proteins do in cellular respiration? (2)
A
- some aa can be converted to pyruvic acid or enter krebs cycle
- depending on body’s need, they may need to form new glucose (liver, kidney) or ATP (most cells)
6
Q
What is the function of fats in cellular respiration? (2)
A
- primary storage form of energy in the body (triglycerides)
- broken down to form acetyl coA to ATP
7
