A
- neutrophils
- Eosinophils
- basophils

Q
What is the function of neutrophils? (2)
A
- phagocytic
- 1st to eneter infected areas
4
Q
What is the function of eosinophils? (2)
A
- attack parasites
- break down chemicals released in allergic reactions
5
Q
What is the function of basophils? (2)
A
- secrete histamine (increase inflammation)
- secrete heparin (inhibit local clotting)
6
Q
What are the 2 types of agranulocytes?
A
- monocytes
- lymphocytes
7
Q
What is the function of monocytes?
A
- enter tissues, enlarge to become phagocytic macrophages
8
Q
What are the two types of T Lyphocytes?
A
Helpter T (TH) and cytotoxic T (CTLs) lymphocytes
9
Q
What are the function of B lymphocytes? (2)
A
- when activated, give rise to plasma cells
- secrete antibodies
10
Q
What is the function of natural killer cells?
A
- attack foreign cells and abnormal cells (non-specific)
11
Q
What are platelets?
A
- cell fragments from megakaryocytes
12
Q
What is the function of platelets? (2)
A
1) form platelet plug to prevent excess blood loss
2) contains granules that are coagulation factors
13
Q
What are coagulation factors?
A
proteins/chemicals involved in clotting
