self-management
1
Q
define self management
define: Skinner’s two-response concepts of self-control
A
- engaging in one behaviour to control or prevent the occurence of a target behaviour
SKINNER - controlling response: behaviour that influences future occurence of the controlled response (self-management behaviour)
- controlled response: the behaviour that you want to change (Target behaviour)
2
Q
Types of self-management strategies
explain goal setting
A
- expilicitly determining the criterion level of the target behaviour and the timeframe for achieving it
- achievement can be a conditioned reinforcer
- should alwasy be SMART: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound
3
Q
Types of self-management strategies
explain self-monitoring
A
- person observes and records their own behaviour as it occurs
- often produces reactivity
- typically used with goal setting
4
Q
Types of self-management strategies
explain manipulating antecedents
A
- antecedents intervetions
5
Q
Types of self-management strategies
explain behavioural contract
A
- written doc that defines and specifically states: target behaviour, data collection, criteria, timefreame, contingencies
6
Q
Types of self-management strategies
explain self-administered consequences
A
- manipulating reinforcers and punishers
- may take unearned rewards “bootleg reinforcement or short cicuiting the contingency”
7
Q
Types of self-management strategies
explain social support
A
- other people serve as cues for the target behaviour or provide natural reinforcers
8
Q
Types of self-management strategies
explain self instructions adn self praise
A
- self-instructions: statements that tell yourself what to do, how to do it or when to do it
- states of affirmative evaluations of your behaviour
9
Q
9 steps on how to use self-management
A
- decide to engage in self-management
- define the target behaviours and competing baheviours
- set goals
- self-monitor
- conduct a functional assessment
- choose appropriate slef-management strategies
- evalute change
- reevaluate self-managemetn strategies if necessary
- implement maintenance/gernealization strategies
