A tool mark is any hard object that leaves a mark on a softer object
Class characteristic tool marks
Class of tools and include features such as the width and shape

Formed by accidental events. Such as during manufacturing and marks the tool as it is being made
Impressed tool marks
Occur when a hard object is pressed into a softer object and no movement is involved other than a force or a blow
Striated tool marks
Occur when a tool is pressed in with a sliding motion so movement is involved

Serial number restoration
When serial numbers are applied, they are stamped with force that the metal crystal underneath are weaken enough to be visualized again if it gets erased.
