Token Economy Flashcards
reinforcement system in which conditioned reinforcers delivered to people for desirable behaviors; tokens later exchanged for backup reinforcers
Token economy
something delivered to person immediately after desirable bx
Token
Examples of tokens:
Money, free time, prizes
actual reinforcers for which the person later exchanges accumulated tokens
Backup reinforcer
Examples of backup reinforcer
Real Money, free time, prizes
Determining schedule for token delivery:
- More important/difficult behaviors result in more tokens
- begin with continuous SR, then move to intermittent reinforcement
- ensure individual earns enough tokens to stay engaged
Token Exchange Rules:
- Smaller items = fewer token
- Larger items = more tokens
- Must determine maximum # tokens client can earn in period & set exchange rate
What is response cost within a token economy?
loss of token for undesirable bx
ONLY use RC if:
there is a undesirable behavior that competes with desirable bx
DO NOT use RC if :
there are no competing problem behaviors
Staff implementation of TE:
written instructions & Behavioral Skills training (BST)
Management of TE:
- Note instances of target bx & deliver token immediately after using correct schedule
- Note instance of problem bx & immediately remove token
- Prevent theft/counterfeiting of tokens
- Adhere to exchange rate, times, & rules of exchange
