Q

TMJ movements - protraction/retraction? opening/closing?

A

Pro/re:
- glide occurs mainly in the upper compartment of TMJ
Open/close:
- gravity moves hinge joint movement taking place in lower compartment
- active compound movement when hinge glides
Hinge and sliding joint

Q

Occlusal problems - muscle action and occlusion relation?

A

Muscle problems associated with the joint as joint position is determined by muscle action until moment of intercuspation when an irresistible force determines the position (occlusion)

Problems occur when the occlusal position and muscular position are not in harmony
