4 types of tissues and example of each
epithelial tissue (epidermis) connective tissue (dermis, blood, bones) muscular tissue (skeletal, smotth, cardiac) Nervous tissue (nerve fibers and neurons)
Define Tissue
A group of similar cells thats perform a specific function
What is 1 layer of epithelial cells called?
Simple epithelial tissue
What is 2 or more layers of epithelial cells called?
Stratified epithelial tissue
Functions of connective tissue?
Connects, Binds, Supports, Protects, stores energy, repair
5 main cells of connective tissue:
Fibroblasts Mast cells macophages plasma adipose cells
Function of muscular tissue
muscular tissue contracts and relaxes to move parts of the body
types of muscular tissue
Skeletal (voluntary)
Smooth (involuntary
Cardiac (involuntary)
Functions of Nervous tissue:
carries messages to and from the CNS to control and coordinate all body functions
What are plasma cells responsible for?
plasma ats as a delivery system , carrys nutrients and minerals to cells and carries waste away. also contains stem cells
Functions of adipose cells?
Store energy
Necessary for hormone production
What are mast cells?
Immune cells that produce histamines in response to allergens
Function of plasma cells?
act as a transport system carrying minerals and nutrients to all cells of the boyd and removing waste. also contain stem cells which differentiate
What are macrophages?
immune cells that destroy and ingest foreign materials
