An autoimmune disorder with infiltration of immune cells and deposits of glycosaminoglycans within the extraocular muscles

What are the risk factors for thyroid eye disease?
A
- Smoking
- Radioiodine treatment

How does thyroid eye disease present?
A
- Patients may be hypo/hyper/euthryoid
- Exophthalmos (eye bulges out)
- Conjunctival oedema
- Optic disc swelling

How is thyroid eye disease managed?
A
- Topical lubricants to help prevent corneal inflammation
- Steroids
- Radiotherapy
