What is entropion?
A
When the eyelid turns inwards with the lashes against the eyeball

How does entropion present?
A
Painful eye with eyelid turned inwards

How is entropion managed?
A
1st line: Taping the eyelid down to prevent it turning inwards with lubricating eye drops to prevent eye drying out
Gold standard: Surgical intervention

What is a complication of entropion?
A
Corneal damage and ulceration

What is an ectropion?
A
When the eyelid turns outwards with the inner aspect of the eyelid exposed - usually on lower eyelid

How is ectropion managed?
A
- Mild cases do not need treatment
- Lubricating eye drops
- Surgery if severe defect

What is a complication of ectropion?
A
Exposure keratopathy as the eyelid is exposed and not adequately protected
