What is blepharitis?
A
- Common chronic inflammatory condition affecting the eyelids

What are the 2 types of blepharitis?
A
Anterior - inflammation of the base of the eyelashes
Posterior - inflammation of the Meibomian glands

What are the causes of blepharitis?
A
Anterior: Staphylococcal blepharitis/seborrhoeic dermatitis
Posteior: Meibomian gland dysfunction

How does blepharitis present?
A
- Itchy, gritty sensation in the eyes
- Crusting of the eyes in the morning
- Usually affects both eyes

How is blepharitis managed?
A
- Cleaning of the eyelids regularly with cotton wool dipped in sterilised water and baby shampoo
- Apply warm compress for 5-10 mins atleast twice daily
