What is a chalazion?
A
A sterile, inflammatory granuloma caused by the obstruction of a sebaceous gland

What are the risk factors of a meibomian cyst?
A
- Chronic blepharitis
- Seborrhoeic dermatitis
- Rosacea
- Pregnancy
- Diabetes
- Hypercholesterolaemia

How does chalazion present?
A
- Firm, painless eyelid swelling which develops over weeks
- More common on upper eyelid
- Granuloma seen when eyelid is everted
- No changes to vision unless severe

What is the treatment for chalazion?
A
- Hot compresses and analgesia
- Refer if does not improve/resolve after 4 weeks
- Manage risk factors
