What is a stye
A
An acute localized infection/inflammation of the eyelid margin

What are the 2 types of stye?
A
- External: appears on the eyelid margin, usually caused by infection of eyelash follicle
- Internal: appears on the conjunctival surface of the eyelid, usually caused by infection of a Meibomian gland

What are the risk factors for stye formation?
A
- Chronic blepharitis
- Acne rosacea

What is the presentation of a stye?
A
- Acute painful swelling near the eyelid margin
- Presents over several days
- Should not be affecting visual acuity

What is the management of a stye?
A
- Warm compresses around the eye 2-4 times daily
- Avoid eye makeup/contact lenses
- Self-limiting
