Thursday 1 - Fitz - muscle receptors and spinal reflexes actual lecture Flashcards
Where in the CNS are the pattern generators that regulate walking movements (i.e. one leg relaxes when the other contracts)
spinal cord
Afferent part of the muscle stretch reflex?
efferent?
Intrafusal fiber
extrafusal fiber
Lower motor neuron lesion
dmg to ?
what do you see clinically
damage to alpha motor neurons
flaccid paralysis
upper motor neuron lesion
two types
loss of inhibition to alpha motor neurons at the level of the vestibulospinal tract - rigid paralysis or alpha rigidity
loss of inhibition to gamma motor neurons, increased contraction of the intrafusal fibers, increased spindle activity, reflex contraction of the extrafusal fibers. leads to the lengthening reaction.
What happens when you stimulate the golgi tendon organ?
what about the spindle
golgi - relaxation of muscle
spindle - contraction
clasp knife reflex
muscle is really rigid, relaxes rapidly upon bending because golgi tendon organs force the relaxation
usually a result of upper motor neuron damage
