Q

assessment (thrombi)

A
  • compare measurements bilaterally for symmetry
  • compare heat bilaterally
  • assess for edema: pitting or non-pitting
  • Homan’s sign: you can see a positive Homan’s sign where the pain is felt when the feet are dorsiflexed

Q

prevention (thrombi)

A
  • passive ROM
  • sequential compression device (SCD)

-TEDS or compression bandages
decreasing coagulation:

  • heparin (IV)
  • low dose heparin (subcutaneous): within our scope
  • Coumadin: oral (monitor international normalized ratio/INR)
