Thoracic Limb OIAs Flashcards
What is the origin of the supraspinatus muscle?
-Supraspinous fossa
What is the insertion of the supraspinatus muscle?
-Greater & lesser tubercles of the humerus
What is the action of the supraspinatus muscle?
-Extend & stabilize the humeral joint
What is the origin of the infraspinatus muscle?
-Infraspinous fossa
What is the insertion of the infraspinatus muscle?
-Superficial tendon: on the greater tubercle of the humerus (infraspinatus bursa)
-Deep tendon: on the caudal eminence of greater tubercle
What is the action of the infraspinatus muscle?
-Fixator & abductor of the humeral joint
What is the origin of the deltoideus muscle?
-Caudal border of scapula, aponeurosis which covers infraspinatus
What is the insertion of the deltoideus muscle?
-Deltoid tuberosity
What is the action of the deltoideus muscle?
-Flexor & abductor of the shoulder
What is the origin of the subclavius muscle?
-Cranial part of the sternum closely associated to supraspinatus m.
What is the insertion of the subclavius muscle?
-Supraspinatus muscle epimysium
What is the action of the subclavius muscle?
-Complement the pectoral muscle
What is the origin of the subscapularis muscle?
-Subscapular fossa
What is the insertion of the subscapularis muscle?
-Lesser tubercle of humerus
What is the action of the subscapularis muscle?
-Stabilize the shoulder & adduction
What is the origin of the teres major muscle?
-Caudal angle of the scapula & adjacent caudal border of scapula
What is the insertion of the teres major muscle?
-Teres major tuberosity of humerus
What is the action of the teres major muscle?
-Mainly flexor of the shoulder
What is the origin of the biceps brachii muscle?
-Supraglenoid tubercle of scapula
What is the insertion of the biceps brachii muscle?
-Radial tuberosity, extensor carpi radialis m. via lacertus fibrosus
What is the action of the biceps brachii muscle?
-Flexor of the elbow & extensor of the shoulder
What is the origin of the triceps brachii muscle?
-Long head: Caudal border of scapula
-Lateral head: deltoid tuberosity of humerus
-Medial head: medial aspect of humerus
