Theraputic Drug Moitoring Flashcards
What is therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM)
The use of drug measurements in body fluids to aid the management of drug therapy for the cure, alleviation or prevention of a disease
What are the 4 criteria to use TDM
Poor correlation between dose and effect
Good correlation between plasma drug concentration and effect
Absence of good clinical/laboratory markers of effect
Narrow concentration interval between therapeutic and toxic effects
What is ADME
Absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion
What is pharmacodynamics
The study is the relationship between the concentration of the drug at the site of action and the biochemical and physiological effect
What is the therapeutic index
The margin between the therapeutic dose and the toxic dose
What is phenytoin
A drug that is used for the treatment of tonic-clonic and focal seizures
What is tacrolimus
An immunosuppressant used to prevent solid organ graft rejection. Also used to treat autoimmune diseases
What is digoxin
It strengthens the contraction of cardiac muscles and increases cardiac output
