focuses on deep seated or ingrained issues that clients face. Requires more time.
10 tips for successful communication?
Use open ended questions, be flexible, don’t preach/give advice, dont multitask, its ok to say you don’t know, listen, be brief, use silence, avoid being repetitive/saying unnecessary things, dont equate you experience to theirs.
Goal of counselling?
Tackle negative self concept by emphasizing positive psychology. Want to enable reliance, self actualization, and transcendence.
What is resilience?
Persons ability to recover from life’s challenges.
How do counsellors support resilience?
Help to increase clients competency and self respect, help clients adapt/learn from adversity, point out when clients demonstrate resilience, and teach self care/healing.
What’s self actualization?
Counsellors aid client to realize they do have ability to overcome challenges. It’s desire to become the most you can and become our full potential.
How does therapy affect your brain?
Can change your brain physically and helps us to better cope with things.
What is intentionality?
Be in the moment and respond flexibly to changing situations.
What is cultural intentionality ?
Act with sense of capability and flexibly choose an action from range of alternatives. Be aware of diversity and differences and honour/respect cultural beliefs.
What are microskills?
They are counselling skills. Specific communication skills that provide counsellors with alternate ways to support the client. Allows you to adapt your communication.
