A

Has an education focus. Designed to deal with information deficits, teach skills for more effective living (stress management), and it’s not focused on exploring emotions/interpersonal processes.

A

Focuses on interpersonal process/problem solving related to thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It emphasizes inner strengths, help members resolve problems in living/dealing with developmental concerns.

A

Members have a strong sense of belonging to group, barriers between leader/members are broken down, more attractive a group is=greater influence it exercises on its members. Change in 1 part may cause stress in members, pressures for change created through shared perception by members for need for change.

A

Spoken or unspoken rules that guide how team members interact/collaborate/work together. 3 purposes- predictive (basis for understanding behaviour of others), relational (some norms define relationships), and control (regulate behaviour of others).

What is group cohesion based on?

A

Trust (among members and trust in leader). Without trust, cohesion cant be formed. Cohesion creates sense of belonging/group attraction. Trust build self exploration and participation.

A

Group members/leader share with each other about personal reactions and it must be given with sensitivity/respect. It helps members realize how their behaviour affects others.

A

A

A

Don’t dismiss members, educate about group process, be honest/genuine, face conflict, explore defensiveness, challenge members to explore painful/difficult topics, and find a balance between support and challenge.

A

Helps leaders understand how past experiences of member affects them, group work can re-create early life situations that affects members, and members behaviour can offer insight to leader how they behave in social situations.

A

Leader sets solution focused tone from beginning, focus on members seeing themselves as less problem saturated, create opportunities for members to see themselves as resourceful, work with members to develop goals, and incorporate SFBT techniques.

A

Leader emphasize how cultural/political/social elements are neglected in understanding how problems arise in first place. Leader understands members problems as product of social forces. Create environment where members join forces to fight against external social forces of harm.
