Theo 116: Loving God and Loving Others Flashcards
What is the Greates Commandment?
Mark 12:28 - 30
“One of the scribes . . . asked Him, ‘What
commandment is the foremost of all?’ Jesus
answered, ‘The foremost is, “Hear, O Israel! The Lord our
God is one Lord; and you shall love the Lord your God
with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all
your mind, and with all your strength.”
Is the evidence of our Love for God some sort of feeling or experience
John 14:15
If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
We love God as our Father
- A Real Father
Romans 8:16
The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that
we are children of God.
- An Intimate Father
ROMANS 8:15
For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading
to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption
as sons by which we cry out, ‘Abba! Father!
We love God as a Friend
- A reciprical friendship
John 15:15
“No longer do I call you servants, but I have called you friends”
1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the
light, we have fellowship with one another, and the
blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.”
What is the second most important command?
Mark 12:31 - “The second is this, ‘You shall love
your neighbor as yourself.’”
John 13:34 - “A new commandment I give to you,
that you love one another, even as I have loved
you, that you also love one another.”
John 13:35 - “By this all men will know that you
are My disciples, if you have love for one
another.”
Loving one another is the fullfillment of the law
Romans 13:8 - 10 - “Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another;
for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. For this, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,
and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”
The works of the flesh
Galations 5:19 -21
19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
The Fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22-23
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control”
Galatians 2:20
Galatians 2:20
“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives
in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God
who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
How can we love others
1 Recognize that you can’t love them on your own. (Galations 5:19 -21)
#2 Recognize that you have an inexhaustible source of love
within you. (Galatians 5:22-23)
#3 Receive that love for others by faith. (Galations 2:20)
