Apol 201: Individual and Community Faith Flashcards
EPHESIANS 2:20-22
Having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord,
in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.
ROMANS 12:5
So we, who are many, are one body in Christ,
and individually members one of another
HEBREWS 10:24-25
…and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
EPHESIANS 4:15-16
…but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies,
according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.
ROMANS 12:4-6
For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly…
Are only some Christians gifted?
According to Rom 12:4-6
ALL christians are gifted
Gifts are given by grace and are not earned or deserved
Gifts are not for the individual, but for the building up of the body of Christ
COLOSSIANS 3:11
Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.
Is anyone in the church more important than others?
No, according to Colossians 3:11 and 1 Corinthians 12:18 - 25, all are equal before God. We are all equal in value, but different in roles.
1 CORINTHIANS 12:18-25
But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired. If they were all one member, where would the body be? But now there are many members, but one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; or again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”… that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one
another.
Romans 12:9-13
Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality
How should Christians live in community
According to Romans 12:9-13, Christians should honor and serve one another in brotherly love, meeting each other’s needs, and show hospitality towards one another.
ROMANS 16:17
Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye
on those who cause dissensions and
hindrances contrary to the teaching which
you learned, and turn away from them.
What is Paul telling us to do in ROMANS 16:17
To watch out for those who want to divide and destroy the church. That they will attempt to infiltrate the church in an attempt to destroy it, by sowing division in the body of Christ.
John 17:11.
Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the
name which You have given Me, that they
may be one even as We are.
Matthew 16:18
I will build My church; and the gates of Hades
will not overpower it.
