Theo 116: Angels Flashcards
Angels are created beings
Colossians 1:16 - For by Him all things were created,
both in the heavens and on earth, visible
and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or ruler
or authorities—all things have been created through
Him and for Him.”
They are spirit beings
Hebrews 1:13-14 - “the angels . . . Are they not all
ministering spirits, sent out to render service
for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?”

announced to you through those who preached
the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent

in the presence of the angels of God

when they sinned”

in the heavenly places.”
There are vast numbers of them

and to the city of the living God, the heavenly
Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels.”

they neither marry nor are given in marriage,
but are like angels in heaven.”

3 One day at about three in the afternoon he had a vision. He distinctly saw an angel of God, who came to him and said, “Cornelius!”
4 Cornelius stared at him in fear. “What is it, Lord?” he asked.
The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God. 5 Now send men to Joppa to bring back a man named Simon who is called Peter.
They worship God

the firstborn into the world, He says, ‘And let all
the angels of God worship Him.’”

afraid, Zacharias, for your petition has been heard,
and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son,
and you will give him the name John.”

supernaturally conceive the Son of God.
Luke 1:35 -“The angel answered and said to her,
‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power
of the Most High will overshadow you;
and for that reason the holy Child shall be called
the Son of God.”

would become Jesus’ earthly step-father
Matthew 1:20-24
20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,[a] because he will save his people from their sins.”
22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”[b] (which means “God with us”).
24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.
Mathew 2:13
13 When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”

19 After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt 20 and said, “Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child’s life are dead.”
Angels announced and celebrated
the birth of Jesus.
Luke 2:10-13 - “But the angel said to them [the shepherds near Bethlehem], ‘Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.’ . . . And suddenly there appeared with the
angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God”

“Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking
for Jesus who has been crucified. He is not here,
for He has risen, just as He said.”
Render services to believers
Hebrews 1:13-4 - “the angels . . . Are they not all
ministering spirits, sent out to render service
for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?”
Strengthen Believers
Daniel 1:18 - “Then this one with human appearance
touched me again and strengthened me.”
Protect Believers
Acts 12:5-11
6 The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. 7 Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists.
8 Then the angel said to him, “Put on your clothes and sandals.” And Peter did so. “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me,” the angel told him. 9 Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision. 10 They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him.
11 Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from Herod’s clutches and from everything the Jewish people were hoping would happen.
Offer Practical help to believers
1 Kings 19:5-6 - “And he lay down and slept under
a juniper tree; and behold, there was an angel
touching him, and he said to him, ‘Arise, eat.’ Then
he looked and behold, there was at his head a bread
cake baked on hot stones, and a jar of water.”
