Imposed religious discipline amongst Franciscans and Dominicans with a programme of reform based on stricter observance of the rules of the order.
Why did the laity resent and resist change?
They didn’t wish to lose aspects of Christianity which often they most enjoyed:
- the devotions to the saints
- rituals
- processions
- celebrations
