The spine is divided up into how many sections?

What is the 1st section called and what does it do?
Cervical; neck region, support the head
What is the 2nd section called and what does it do?
Thoracic; attached to the ribs
What is the 3rd section called and what does it do?
Lumbar; Lower back region, weight bearing region
What is the 4th section called and what does it do?
Sacrum; joins with the pelvis
What is the 5th section called?
Coccyx
What is meant by posture?
The position you hold your body in when sitting, lying or standing.
Why is good posture important?
Important to minimise the strain on muscles, bones, ligaments and tendons.
What is meant by the term Lordosis?
A C-shaped curve of the lumbar region of the spine
What is meant by the term Kyphosis?
An exaggerated curve of the thoracic region (round-shouldered)
What is meant by the term Scoliosis?
A sideways curve of the spine
