Proximal:
refers to the end of a bone closest to the mid-line of the body
Distal
refers to the end of a bone furthest from the mid-line of the body
Origin
refers to the end of the muscle connected to the bigger, more stable joint or body part
Insertion
refers to the end of the muscle connected to the smaller, less stable joint or body part
Ventral
situated in front; also known as “anterior”
Dorsal
situated behind; also known as “posterior”
Superior

Medial
closer to the midline (median) of the body

further away from the midline (median) of the body
Plantar
the sole of the foot

the crown or top of the head
