Western medical model

Holistic medical model
Focusses on treating the person as a whole, rather than just their symptoms, they diagnose the entire body and focus on imbalances. It involves healing the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual components of health, really emphasizing the body as a whole.
Public Health model
Focus on the science of protecting and improving health. It is an organize effort of society to keep people, healthy, and prevent illness. It involves a combination of programs and services to promote the health of all Canadians.
Community
A group of people that share common interests and characteristics
3 types of community units
- units that accomplish basic needs.
- Units for social interaction (sense of belonging)
- Units of symbolic collective identity (similar language, norms, and values)
Community Health model
Community health is a part of public health, it is similar goals on a community level, including ensuring essential local medical services
Health education
Social-behavioral science that is grounded in research related to health behaviour. It is any combination of learning experiences designed to help people and communities improve their health.
Health educators
Trained professionals who work with groups in the public heath or community settings
Population Health
Health status of a group of people who may or may not identify as a community
International and global Heath
A systematic comparison of the factors that affect the health of all human populations
Health promotion
The process of enabling people with increased control over their health
Th Ottawa charter for Health promotion
The first real focus on wellness. A conference on health promotion was held by the world health organization in Ottawa on November 21, 1986. Hope was for a new public health movement with five action strategies. Develop personal skills, strength, and community action changing the focus of health services towards primary healthcare, build healthy public policies, and create supportive environments.
