What was Cato street?

A

. Occurred in 1820
. Was a plot by a group of radicals to murder the whole British cabinet and lord Liverpool
. The plot was encouraged by a police informer in the group and while attempting to carry the plot out the radicals fell into a trap and were arrested.

. Occurred in 1817
. Was a protest march to London of 4000 people who planned to give their demands to the prince regent.
. There demands were parliamentary reform and the abolishment of the Corn laws.
. Ultimately only 1 person made it to London.

What was the Peter loo massacre?

A

. Occurred in 1819
. Was a peaceful protest wanting reform of parliament and the abolishment of the Corn laws.
. Local magistrates ordered the local yeomanry to break up the crowds and arrest its leaders.
. Most of the soldiers were drunk and they rode down the protesters leading to hundreds of casualties.

. Was a group which operated from 1812 to 1815
. They were originally Croppers who had lost their jobs due to industrialisation and in protest they went around mill and destroyed machinery plus beat up mill owners.
