The nuclear family is ideal
We need heterosexual couples in ofer to secure sexual divisions of labour to meet the needs of the family
How should the nuclear family divide labour?
Men in charge- breadwinners
Women submissive- child rearer and family maker
What should the nuclear family not do?
Be reliant on the welfare state and the government
In what ways should the nuclear family be traditional?
No sex before marriage
No homosexuality
No single parents
Why do the nuclear family dislike the single parent family?
Because people with single parent family’s are more likely to be susceptible to delinquent behaviour as only one parent can meet there needs
-Boys without a farther figure look for social status and role model amongst other males leading to street crimes and violence
-Having traditional seual divisons of labour ensure that females can socialise children
What does the rise of social media and female equality do?
due to dual earning family’s mean that children are using forms of media like social media, tv, films and to pick up norms and values

The proportion of all people living in traditional family households of married couple with dependant children has fallen from 52% to 37%
-nearly 1/4 of children lived with only one parent last year 9/10 of those house holds headed by lone mothers

If you take almost any measure, how well children do in school, weather they turn to crime, weather they commit suicide etc its better to have 2 parents
-Its also the biggest disadvantage of lone parenthood that you’re much more likely to be poor
How does the new right impact wider society?
-Keeping traditional policies
-Murry believes the underclass has become stereotyped with crime, unemployment etc due to the generosity of the welfare state
What is the nanny state?
Welfare dependant
this includes the state acting as a nanny such as benefits, Nhs etc
-The state should act as a referee and we should roll back the state to encourage self reliance instead of welfare dependence
Evaluation?
-Controversial
-Simplistic and short sighted, ignoring complexities to todays society
-Victim blaming ignoring reasons why people claim benefits

Murrays ideas aren’t helpful and use the underclass and other groups as scapegoats

Benefit fraud does not amount to the sum of money that white collar crime masses
23x more likely to be prosecuted for benefit fraud then tax fraud in UK
Despite tax fraud costing the economy 9x more then benefit fraud in 2018/19 tax fruad cost the tresury 20 billion whereas benefit fraud 2.2billion
Evaluation- The departent from work and pensions?
employs 3 and a hald times more staff in compliance than HMRC does and 8 1/2 more prison sentence were imposed from benefits crime than tax crime over past 11 yrs
