What are asylum seeker?
Someone who say he/she is a refugee, but whose claim has not yet been definitively evaluated
What is the common wealth?
A voluntary group of independent countries, some of which were former british colonies

A person who travels from one country or area to another in order to improve standard of living
What is the european union?
A group of countries which work together in fields such as the environment, social issues, economy and trade
What are refugees?
A person who had been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution or natural disaster
What are emigration?
Leaving your homeland to live in another country
What is immigration?
Coming to another country to live there

Total immigration- Total emigration

Pattern in migration?
1950- increased after ww2, people from south asian countries and the caribbean were encouraged to come to the UK to rebuild the country
2004/07- peaked due to joining EU

Immigration legislation has restricted immigration from south asia to caribbean

What is the immigration point system?
To live in the UK, migration will have to gain point, if they gain 70 they can stay
By gaining a job offer of an appropriate skill with an english speaker or if the job is in shortage
-Application fee depends on citizens length of stay, if skill isn’t on list fee have to pay for health
Point system- how to get 70 point?
20 p- job offer
20p- skilled job
10p- speak english
20p- PhD in STEM subject
